The Funeral Mass for Albert Armstrong Sr. will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church 8523 Normandy Blvd Jacksonville, Florida 32221. The visitation will be held at Holmes Glover Solomon Funeral Directors Inc. 4334 Brentwood Ave Jacksonville, Florida 32206 on Tuesday June 6, 2023, from 3:00PM-6:00PM.  Interment will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville Florida 32218. Albert V. Armstrong, Sr. 91 years old, entered his eternal rest on May 21, 2023. Albert was born on October 21, 1931, to James and Arcenia Armstrong of Jacksonville, Florida. Albert attended Ed Waters grade school, David Street Middle School in Jacksonville, FL., and St. Emma Military Academy, Powhatan, Virginia. After graduating from military school, Albert joined the United States Air Force. On November 23, 1957, Albert married Essie Lockley of Woodbine, Georgia. Albert and Essie traveled substantially while Albert made a career in the United States Air Force. After serving four years at Fuchu AFB, Japan, in 1967, Albert moved his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Albert and Essie decided to make Colorado Springs their home and raised their three children in this beautiful Rocky Mountain city. During Albert's Air Force career, he served at Westover AFB, Massachusetts where their three children were born. Albert spent two tours in Japan, two tours on Guam, one tour in Korea, one tour on Greenland, other bases included, Selfridge AFB, MI, Hurlburt Field, FL. and numerous bases in Colorado Springs, CO. including NORAD and the Air Force Academy, CO. After Albert's career ended with the Air Force (29years and 6 months), Albert continued working for the government as a Civil Service worker for the next 18 years. While making a career in the Air Force and Civil Service, Albert attended college at St. Leo Catholic University, St. Leo, FL., and Regis Catholic University, Denver, Colorado with degrees in Military Science and Business Administration. In 2018, Albert and his wife Essie, moved from their beloved home in Colorado Springs, Colorado to live in Jacksonville, Florida to be near relatives. Albert and Essie resided at Cecil Pines, a retirement community and became a member of Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Jacksonville, Florida. While living in Colorado Springs, CO., Albert, and Essie were long time active members of St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral. Albert was a respected and decorated leader earning numerous ribbons and medals not only during his Air Force career but also his career with Civil Service. With all of Albert's astute military training and knowledge, Albert retired from the Air Force as an E8 and a GS-12 from Civil Service. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Essie Armstrong, and son Dr. Albert V. Armstrong, Jr. (Lita) of Miami, Florida, daughter in-law, Janise Armstrong of Tampa, FL., a grandson, Anthony Armstrong (Virginia) of Lutz, FL., granddaughter, Muriel Braddy, Seattle, Washington, Five great grandchildren, Sister in-law, Ocie Armstrong, Jacksonville, FL., a niece, Brenda Armstrong-Brock (Teddy), Orlando, FL., two nephews Andre' Armstrong (Nita), Silver Spring, MD., and Michael Armstrong, Fayetteville, NC. Grandnieces, Melak Armstrong, Silver Spring, MD., and Ashley Armstrong, Raleigh, NC. and one Grandnephew, Michael Armstrong, III., Washington, D.C. There are many, many other relatives, and friends. Preceded Albert in death are his parents, James, and Arcenia Armstrong, two very dear children, Beverly Armstrong-Adkins, Denver, CO., Ret. LT. Commander Christopher A. Armstrong, Tampa, FL., a grandson, Vincent L. Armstrong and two brothers, Willie J. Armstrong, and Robert Armstrong all of Jacksonville, FL.
