Obituary

Ms. Betty Jean Jones Perez (BJ to her friends) passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2022. Betty was born on December 24, 1944 to Charlie Henry Jones and Marie Stirks in Jacksonville, Florida. BJ was a graduate of Stanton Senior High School, class of 1963. She graduated from Edward Waters College (now University). She is survived by her daughter Payton Perez; sisters Delores Alexander (Al), Duffushia Kennedy-Tolliver (Larry); brothers Daniel and Earl Robinson; nieces Stacey Alexander and Latonya Weir; and her beloved Willie Jones. She taught ESE in Duval County Public School System and in Hazlehurst, Georgia. For several years, Betty worked for DCPS as substitute teacher. In 2011, Betty retired as the In-School Suspension Program (ISSP) Facilitator Paraprofessional at Southside Middle School in Jacksonville, Fl. She was a past member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Executive Board of Duval Teachers United. Her interests included reading, painting, music, and traveling. As an avid adventurer , BJ had visited many destinations all over the USA by bus, plane, and train, however; she truly loved going on cruises to visit Canada, Bermuda, South America, and the Caribbean. Funeral service will be held Friday, September 16, 2022, at 11:00AM in the Rosa Glover Holmes Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held in the mortuary on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 4-7PM
