Obituary

Funeral service for Janet McWhite will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11:00AM in Celebration Church, 512 Kingsley Avenue. Visitation will be held in the mortuary on Friday, January 28, from 12:00PM-2:00PM. Interment in Magnolia Cemetery.

Janet Maria McWhite was born May 30, 1954 to Raymond McWhite, Sr. and Annie Cummings McWhite in Jacksonville, Florida.

Janet was a stellar student and educated in the school system of Duval County, where she was a member of the National Honors Society, the chorus, the orchestra (Cello) and was a member of the track and field team. Janet graduated from William M. Raines High School class of 1972.  She later attended Florida State College of Jacksonville (formerly FCCJ).

Janet worked for Amtrak for over 20 years, upon her retirement she became a licensed barber stylist until she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she worked for Solgar Vitamins. Later she worked for St. Vincent's Hospital Riverdale until her retirement.

Janet touched the lives of many people with her radiant smile, open heart, jovial sense of humor and generous spirit. She loved to cheer on her favorite football teams the Jacksonville Jaguars & the Florida Gators, if she was not catching a game, Janet could be found fishing on the local waterways and leisure traveling.

Janet accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, she was a member of Celebration Church Orange Park campus and loved to pray and read her bible daily without fail.

On the evening of January 20, 2022, after a hard-fought battle with ovarian cancer, Janet Maria McWhite quietly took her rest and went home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond McWhite; maternal grandparents, Annie & Roscoe Cummings: her paternal grandparents, Pearl & Eddie McWhite, Sr.; and her beloved fiancé, Richard Simmons.

Janet leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Tanya "Nekay" Simmons; granddaughter, Schaquetta Hernandez, great granddaughters, Alana Rivers & Aubrie Bailey; mother, Annie W. Thompkins; stepfather, Melvin Thompkins; siblings, Raymond McWhite, Jr., Michael McWhite (Barbara), Ronald McWhite, Susan Bullard (Hayward), Barbara Jones (Willie), Tony McWhite (Bernida), Virgil McWhite (Bonny), Peter Francis; aunt, Darletha Williams; uncles, Jewel McWhite, Eddie McWhite Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; especially Reverend Samuel & Helen Lee,  loyal friends and her Goddaughter Dawn Shaw.
