John was born on July 18, 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida to John and Lenora Davis. He attended Duval Public Schools and graduated from Ribault Senior High School class of 1973.  He was employed by Sears Warehouse with 15 years of service.

John, known to many as "Ricky", lived with gusto and goodness. He enjoyed his family and music with a deep passion for percussions, often playing the drums with a live band.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Lenora Davis. He leaves to cherish his memory:  Sister- Kathy Collins (Larry), Nieces - Katrina Wesley (Alfred), Emily Beverley (Norman),  Nephew – JaVaughn Johnson (Ronshita), Great Niece & Nephews – Khalil Wesley, JaVaughn "Joe" Johnson, Kendyl Wesley, Jabari Johnson, Kaiden Beverley and Jamir Johnson, Aunts - Birdie Mae Stevens (Atlanta, Ga), Maxine James (Jones, Ga), Verna Ingram Lake City, Fl Uncle – Israel Lambert (Miami, Fl), Cousins – Chaplin, Saddler, Tyson and Lambert families. God sisters – Julia Corey and Patricia Blue, Dear Friends – Ronald Jones, Billy Frazier, Charles Russell, Jeanette Atkins; beloved and devoted pet, "Mr. Kitty"; and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.
