Lela Geneva Jordan, affectionately known to many as Gen, was born on August 15, 1939 to George and Estella Mae Wilcher Washington in Bartow, Florida, and was raised in Dublin, Georgia. Gen accepted Christ at an early age and became an active member at William Grove Baptist Church and joined Greater Grant Memorial AME Church with her husband. Geneva graduated from Millville High School in Dudley, Georgia, and attended Methodist All Girls Academy in Beaufort, SC and Albany State College. Gen met Joe Louis Jordan in Jacksonville and they were married July 20, 1957. One child was born to their union, Alonzo Edwin "Champ" Jordan. Alonzo proceeded his mother in death on June 23, 2020. Prior to her career and retirement from Sears Department Store, Gen worked for Cozy Corner and Reno Pharmacy. She briefly worked parttime at Ross and Marshalls after retirement. Funeral service for Lela G. Jordan will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 11:00AM in the Greater Grant Memorial AME Church. 5533 Gilchrist Rd Jacksonville, FL 32219. Visitation will Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 3-5PM at the mortuary. Interment will be Edgewood Cemetery.
