Obituary

Funeral service for Pearlena Smith will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 10:30AM in the Rosa Glover Holmes Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held in the mortuary on Wednesday, September 15, from 2:00PM-5:00PM. Interment will be held in the Jacksonville National Cemetery.

Mrs. Pearlena C.  Smith was born on November 1, 1930 in Dublin, Georgia to Rev. Felton Claude Curvin and Sophia Toler. She received her education in the public schools of Laurens County, Georgia. After completing her formal education, she was united in holy matrimony to David H. Smith Sr., from this union four sons were born.

In addition, to being a wife and mother "Pearl", as she was affectionately called, was employed as a nurse's assistant. After working in that capacity for many years, she retired from St. Vincent's Medical Center.

Before mom's declining health she was an active member of House of Bethel Spirit of Truth Ministry, Apostle Barbara Dowling, Pastor. Due to her faithfulness and dedication to the ministry, she was honored as mother of the church.

"Pearl" loved to travel, visiting with family in Georgia, North Carolina, and Ohio. She Never missed a Smith-Rozier Family Reunion until her health declined.

"Pearl" went to be with the LORD on September 3, 2021. There were many who preceded "Pearl" in death. Her father, Rev. Felton Claude Curvin; mother, Sophia Toler; husband, David H. Smith, Sr.; sister, Arlena Hobson; three sons, David H. Smith Jr, Felton Alfred Smith and DeWayne Smith.

Those who will forever cherish her memory is son, Maurice Smith (Avis), daughter-in-law, Pornjai Smith; grandchildren, Chalandra Smith, Denise Smith-Jones, Marcus Smith and Ahmad Smith; great-grandchildren, Khania Dickerson (Deandre), Ayanna Jones, Cedric Flanders, Jalen Pierce and Maya Hagans.

She is also lovingly remembered by Letha Mae Cooper, Maxine and Lawrence Zimbabwe, Charles and Debbie Cooper, Carolyn Flowers, Billy Cooper, Patricia and Jonathan Graham, Anthony and Katrena Cooper and Aliciann Cooper.  Other relatives are her nieces/nephews in Dublin Georgia. Naomi Perry, Havie Lee and Emma Smith, Toscanell Smith, Betty Hall, Robbie and Frank Latimore, Sara and Jimmy Edwards, Mark Jr& Theila Smith, James and Lorraine Smith.  Because of mom's love there are a host of other family members in Detroit, Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas and Virginia, that will cherish the memories of her.

Though we are saddened by her death , we are thankful for her life , and t he number of years she was a part of our lives. Rest now m om as we can he ar you say "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the LORD, the righteous  judge will award to me on that day. And not only to me, but also to all  who have longed for his appearing. " ( 2 Timothy 4:7-8)
