In humble submission to the will of God, we announce the earthly transition of Rossie Wells. A memorial service celebrating her will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024.

Mrs. Rossie Wells entered her eternal rest September 15, 2024. She departed peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Rossie was born in Vidalia, Georgia on April 11, 1923, to parents Rosa Bell Roberson and Richard Alfred Roberson. She met and married the love of her life, Mc Roy Wells in Vidalia, followed him to Jacksonville in 1940 where they built a beautiful life for themselves and raised a family that included a son, George Milton, and daughter Jacqueline Yvette.

Rossie worked at Daylight grocery store for many years, while also maintaining a comfortable and loving home for her family and friends.

Rossie was beloved by all who knew her. She was known to many as Ma Rossie or Gramma Rossie. She enjoyed the simple things in life like baking cakes and pies and helping anyone in need. She was always watching game shows and baseball games on TV from the comfort of her favorite chair, visiting with friends and family and feeding her sweet tooth.  She delighted in the many treats gifted by loved ones throughout the years, often making special requests that were readily obliged. She was such a fan of candy that she would often take a small bag to bed with her at night – wanting to always be prepared for a midnight craving.

She was a woman of profound faith, regularly attending church as well as serving as an usher for many years. She deepened her relationship with the Lord daily at home through prayer and praise in all things. She was a woman who knew how to appreciate the blessings of life regardless of any challenges she endured.

Rossie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, McRoy Wells, her sister Mary Emma Jordan and her brother Robert Bell.

She is survived by her loving children, George M. Wells – Roseville, California (Cecilia) and Jackie Wells Brown – Jacksonville, Florida; Grandsons Michael B. Wells - Rocklin, California (Diana) and Jie Wells- Jacksonville, Florida; Granddaughter Soma Ober -Roseville, California; Great grandchildren Trinity Wells - Roseville, California, and Kaycee Ober – Fife, Washington; Great, great grandson, Kaleo Garabaldi-Roseville, California as well as a host of relatives and many friends.

A funeral will be held at Saint Stephen African Methodist Episcopal Church, 913 West Fifth Street Jacksonville, FL, on October 5, 2024 at 11am. Interment will follow at 1pm at Riverside Mortuary Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL.
